A Season in the Life of Emmanuel, Marie-Claire Blais' novel adaptation, a newborn who witnesses the drastic changes a French family experiences in a brief period of time. One of the Emmanuel brothers, Jean le Maigre, is not like the others. Skinny thirteen years old, disobedient, rebellious, he seems doomed to a different fate. It is through this boy, as marked by the shadow of Rimbaud, the world explodes.

This comedic political satire lampoons Russian communist leader Josef Stalin and ridicules the brief period of communism in Italy following World War II. The leader has sex on a bedspread with his own likeness. A hammer and sickle, along with a swastika, is prominently displayed on the posterior of his lovely mistress. The film continues with a series of sight gags, puns and short sketches with some brief interludes of female nudity.
